This series depicts an imagined life, and death of an Italian girl alive in the middle ages - Saint Fina. A poor girl, bedridden with illness, she chose to spend her days lying on a hard wooden pallet, in devotion to her god. As legend has it, upon her death white violets bloomed from the pallet into which her body had been decomposing for years.
In this series I have imagined a recreation of the scene of her death, and her spirit subsequently inhabiting the town she was unable to enjoy in physical life. It is a meditation on the weight of illness, and the resultant lightness of it’s release.
